Middlesbrough College

Lighting the way to a brighter future

A centre of excellence offers bright prospects for a new generation

A brand new state-of- the art training centre at Middlesbrough College has opened its doors to welcome a new generation of students and trainees. The £12 million facility is delivering world-class training to young people who want to work in the area of science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM).

Bright internal spaces are at the heart of the purposebuilt STEM centre, the only one of its kind in the North East of England. Lit and ventilated by VELUX Modular Skylights, the light and airy environment provides the ideal atmosphere for studying.

"Whilst working through a value engineering process with Roofglaze Limited, we chose to use VELUX Modular Skylights instead of a site assembled curtain wall type system on our STEM Building project at Middlesbrough College. The system has a number of unique details that allow rapid installation, however it is vital that the design of the steelwork and adjacent trades are co-ordinated at an early stage to take full advantage of these features. This is the first time we have used this pre-fabricated system and it is clearly an excellent product.
